New international standards for packaging of fresh edible agricultural products

On March 21, 2024, the Standards and Technology Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Law Enforcement and Inspection Bureau, and the Agricultural Products Quality and Safety Supervision Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs jointly held the mandatory national standard "Restricting Excessive Packaging of Commodities Requirements for Fresh Edible Agricultural Products" (GB 43284-2023) Online interpretation activities.
    This standard was drafted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and will be officially implemented on April 1, 2024. The release and implementation of this standard will provide a law enforcement basis for strengthening the entire chain management of excessive packaging of commodities and guiding fresh edible agricultural product production and operation enterprises to appropriately and rationally package and basic support.
   In order to avoid unnecessary impacts on agricultural production and operation activities or the creation of new resource waste standards, a six-month implementation transition period is set, and it is stipulated that "fresh edible agricultural products produced or imported before the date of implementation can be sold until the end of the shelf life." .
  After implementation, production and business entities should comply with the requirements of this standard on the sales packaging of fresh edible agricultural products.
